Happy Friday, VDPS Community! We hope you are enjoying the mid-winter break. Last week, two of our CAD (computer aided design) students were honored at the Macomb County MCTEAA Awards. Shaun Gianino, pictured, and Cynthia Lor both received honors. Cynthia also received a scholarship for the fall semester. Congratulations to our Abes, and keep up the motivation & great work.
Van Dyke Public Schools would like to recognize our own Officers Carrero and Tucker on National School Resource Officer Day. We appreciate their connections with students and families, and their pledge to help keep our schools safe.
Attention Lincoln Elementary families: We will need to dismiss early due to a power issue. Please pick up your students at their specific dismissal door. This is for Lincoln Elementary ONLY.
Good morning, Van Dyke Community. This message comes from a heavy heart. As our state mourns the events at MSU last night, we all hug our loved ones a bit more tightly this morning. All of us in Van Dyke vigilantly work to keep your students safe daily and it saddens us that we have to think about such things in a place of community and learning for our children and staff. We are sending love and peace to all.
Good afternoon, VDPS families and community. This weekend brought sad and tragic events to our country once again. Many of you are having difficult and heartbreaking conversations with your children. These are family conversations that you will want to have, but here are a few articles that might help when your loved ones are asking questions. Please reach out to your child's school if you feel they need more support. We are in this together.

Hello, VDPS Families. We will be closed again tomorrow, Thursday, January 26. Harry the Snow Dog says that all of his Snow Day tricks worked for you!
Good morning, families. The Gleaners food distribution scheduled for today at McKinley will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Harry the Snow Day Dog says to enjoy your day tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25. Van Dyke Public Schools will be closed due to inclement weather conditions. Be safe and stay warm. Don’t forget to take the time to help a neighbor in need during the colder months!
In an update from our Warren Police Dept, the investigation to the potential alleged threat from last week has been concluded. In a search of student cell phones, it has been concluded that there were no threats to any of our schools and that there was no direct language to a school threat. Again, it is safe to return and we would never run school if it were not. We thank you for hanging in and for your support.
Good morning, Van Dyke Community. We do not have a final update on Friday's happenings, other than it was indeed safe to have school this morning. When there are further details they will be released to you immediately.
Hello, Van Dyke Community! Don't forget that there will be no school on Monday, January 16 so that we may celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His contributions to our society and to the Civil Rights movement cannot be forgotten.
Good evening, Van Dyke families. There will be no school tomorrow, Friday, January 13. We were made aware this afternoon of a potential alleged threat. Two brave students saw something on another’s phone and reported it to administrators. The Warren PD are working with us to help with the investigation. We will update you as we find out more information. Thank you, and have a safe weekend.
In collaboration with the Warren Police Department K-9 unit, the adorable but serious and hard-working dogs will be doing a training exercise in our middle and high schools late next week. This will be done while students are in class, and all dogs will be leashed with an experienced K-9 trainer. In the past, this has been a fun way for our students and staff to see the dogs in action and the officers working with them. We look forward to another successful exercise and continuing this community partnership!
Thank you, Mrs. Bates, for seventeen years on our Van Dyke Public Schools Board of Education. Your presence in the district and the City of Warren have left a living legacy of community, service to others, and kindness. Come back to visit anytime - your Abes will be waiting!
Good afternoon, Van Dyke families. Our schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, December 9th. It seems as if there are too many illnesses going around to safely and healthily run our buildings. It's definitely December in Michigan. Please get some rest this weekend and stay safe.

Good morning. Carlson students are being bused to our Kennedy Early Childhood Center for an early dismissal. All students and staff are safe, and we are working with Consumers Energy regarding a possible gas issue in the area. Parents and families may pick up their students at Kennedy, which is located at 11333 Kaltz Ave just south of Ten Mile and west of Hoover Rd. Again, everyone is safe and we are relocating. All Carlson families have received a phone call and we will see you soon. If you are not available, children will be safe at Kennedy until other arrangements are made.
Parents and family members of our wonderful VDPS students, do you hate that four-letter word that starts with an S as much as I do? Well, it's that time of year. In case of a SNOW day or other school closure, be sure that your child's school has your correct contact information. We will also post on our website, Facebook, and local news stations.
