Happy first day! The buildings are all abuzz with excitement and anticipation. We know it's going to be a great year as long as we keep working together. The home-school partnership is essential. We're here when you need us! Remember - today is a half day for all students.

Good afternoon, Van Dyke families. We are so excited to welcome all of your children back on Monday, August 28. Don't worry if you haven't received class lists or packets yet- our amazing secretaries have returned and are getting back into the swing of things now. Take a look at your individual schools' web pages to find supply lists for different grade levels, etc. We won't be posting class lists outside to help increase safety, however you can find those out directly through your child's school. Get ready for a great morning on Monday, and just a couple of things to sign when the kiddos get home!

Who's going to introduce Therapy and Detection dogs this year? WE ARE! Welcome Johnny Guerrero with Binx (left), and Tony Stokes with Intel (right). They are both 2-year-old labs trained through zebra K9 and ready to join the VDPS community with a great big doggie smile.

It's Kid Quote Monday! What might our summer mathematicians be thinking? I like this one, but I know they're all trying their best and learning as fast as lightning:

This time of year is both exciting and sad. As much as we all love summer, we love our Van Dyke Community just as much! Wrapping up the 2022-23 school year will be fun, and we look forward to summer and fall with our students.

Congratulations, Seniors! Our 12th grade students had their last day of school today and, as usual, it was bittersweet to say goodbye to them. They'll be back for their breakfast and then again for Graduation on June 5. It's been a great 13 years with the Class of 2023.

It's tough being a parent and a teen nowadays! Social media absolutely makes it even more complicated - It makes me happy I'm so old and didn't have to deal with it as a young person. The US Surgeon General has put out some tips to help parents. Check out the article here: https://www.clickondetroit.com/business/2023/05/23/the-us-surgeon-general-has-some-tips-for-parents-and-teens-on-social-media-use/

CARLSON FAMILIES: You should have received a call from our system letting you know, however there was a gas leak and children will be released from KENNEDY EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER on Kaltz Avenue just south of Ten Mile Road. Please have an ID or send an approved guardian/family member/friend with photo ID to pick them up. Thank you so much. Consumers Energy is working on the issue for us.

Good morning, Van Dyke Community. This morning, once again, we are overcome with emotion after another deadly school shooting. Whatever you are feeling, any emotions you are working through with your families, are normal. Again, please reach out if you or your children may need additional resources. As added precautions and to help everyone to feel safe, you will see additional bag checks and perhaps drills this week before our break. Our safety teams are working with students and staff daily. We love our community and will work through this awful reality together.

Families: Are you looking for something fun to do before dinner this evening? Join us at LHS for a Parent and Child Expo. See the flyer for more details.

Good morning, Van Dyke Community. It hurts my heart and soul each time we hear of another shooting or act of violence, especially in schools. Yesterday's events in Denver have affected us all. Please reach out to the school if you or your children need additional support. We are all in this together. We pledge to do everything we can to keep our buildings safe for students, staff, and visitors - including physically and emotionally. Again, be sure to always hug your loved ones and say I LOVE YOU more thanever. I love you. - Mrs. Bognar
