We sure hope you're enjoying the Spring Break! Enjoy some pictures from Thursday, when our Dental Assisting students were able to hear about Macomb Community College's Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs at their dental clinic. They also saw Ms. Lipiec's former student who is a second year hygiene student at MCC and were able to talk with her.
Signing Day took on a new meaning as our State Champion Lincoln Abes took the time to sign autographs and take pictures with our elementary students after today's parade. Their faces say it all - we think the players were in a bit of shock, but everyone loved the friendship and mutual support. What a great afternoon! This is what Van Dyke is all about.
Our celebratory parade went off without a hitch! We had visitors from our Mayor Ms. Stone; Senator Wojno's office; Representative McKinney's office, and City Hall to name a few. Check out the happy faces as everyone took a short route around the Lincoln Abes area and got ready for a meet and greet with the players. Go, ABES!
It's a great day for a parade! Let's rephrase that: We will MAKE IT a great day for a parade! We'll be celebrating our State Champion Lincoln Abes at 1:30, along our regular Homecoming route. We'll see you there - bundle up be ready to make some NOI-OISSSSE!
Today was baby/toddler day for spirit week at LMS. These adorable little ones (Toddler Dressig, Toddler Bisbikis, and Toddler Ea'Lyn) were captured being extra cute between classes by Brother Grishaj. Then they were off to the next for a day of learning with the rest of the Abes!
Last night, the LMS Robotics crew, led by Mr. Lonsway and Ms. Gillespie, were able to show a small sampling of their accomplishments for the Board of Education. Here are just a few pics of Battlebots and the human transport robot that keeps on improving. Their work is amazing, and preparing them for the ever-changing fields of robotics and STEM!
Good morning from State Champion Central! Our Boys' Varsity Basketball team made history Saturday night at the Breslin Center by become Division 2 Champions. What a phenomenal group of young men and coaches they are. Our students fans and players received so many compliments from Breslin staff and other attendees - This is the Van Dyke way! Here are just a few pictures that capture the excitement. We'll have an announcement about Friday's parade and some other celebrations soon.
Today was so inspiring and positive. Our students at LMS and Lincoln Elementary were excited to support and send off our Varsity Boys' Basketball team as they got ready to head to Breslin for the state finals. These young scholar athletes have worked hard in school and on the court to make us proud. If you can't attend, you can find the game on MHSAA to cheer them on from home. GO, ABES!
On Tuesday, Mrs. Davies and the Carlson Elementary Student Council were able to head to Bovenschen to volunteer at the Special Olympics. It was a day filled with joy and fun for all, as well as great accomplishments! Thank you to our CES students and CONGRATS to all of the athletes!
I'm beyond excited to share with you that our boys' varsity basketball team has conquered quarterfinals with a 61-42 win over Goodrich and will be heading to the Breslin Center for semifinals Friday evening. There is much celebration in the district and it's well-deserved for these phenomenal young men and their coaches. This is the very first time in Van Dyke history that we've had a basketball team ascend to this level. Congrats, Coach Wydell Henry!
We plan to shorten the day on Friday for LMS and LHS and send fan buses to support our players. I'll be sending communication to families in the next hour. It will be a half day for LMS and LHS.
If you'd like to be a part of the fan bus, please contact LHS' main office and let them know, and please be sure to wear your Lincoln Red so we can "Red Out" the game. It's going to be a very exciting weekend!
GO, ABES!!!!!!
It’s a great day to be an Abe!
Our Varsity Boys’ Basketball team rose to a Regional Championship on Thursday night and are just phenomenal overall. Coach Wydell Henry and his crew, along with our scholar athletes, made history for Lincoln High School.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. The dental assisting students from Lincoln High School visited the preschoolers at Kennedy Early Childhood Center to present their oral hygiene presentations. Some of these presentations included brushing and flossing; what foods are good for their teeth and what foods are bad for their teeth; what type of teeth they get in their mouth; and stories about visiting the dentist, X-rays and braces.
A huge thank you to Brightside Dental in St Clair Shores for donating toothbrushes to all the preschoolers.
Live reports from Kennedy say that the kiddos "loved the dinosaur and the BIG teeth!"
Come on out tomorrow evening (Wednesday) to see our Varsity Boys' Basketball team play the Pershing Doughboys at Pershing! Pershing is located at 18875 Ryan Rd, Detroit, MI 48234, which is on the southwest corner of Seven Mile and Ryan. We'll see you there with our ABEs gear and fierce smile.
It's only two days away - Come see Angela Joy this Saturday, February 24th from 10:00am-12:30pm at Macomb Community College south campus. Enjoy meeting the author, free breakfast, and BOOKS! Please register for this awesome event today.
If you need a smile today, check out Mrs. Lipiec's website. You'll find plenty there, including from students, alumni, and partners in dental health. I bet you'll be grinning ear-to-ear by the time you're finished scrolling! https://www.vdps.net/o/lhs/page/ms-lipiec
Valentine's Day is for everyone! Our sweet LMS students showed their compassion this year by sharing their love. Mr. Izzard says, "Here is a photo of our students' Valentine cards that we sent to The Orchards nursing home in Harper Woods. I would especially like to thank Ms. McSherry, Ms. Mitchell, Mr. Lonsway and the rest of the teachers at Lincoln Middle School who helped in this endeavor. We are teaching our kids to think about others and develop empathy and sympathy for individuals that they don't even know. One student even wrote a poem saying that if this resident didn't have a Valentine, that they would be their valentine. Such outpouring of love was evident in these cards, and it was moving to read them."
Happy Friday, Van Dyke Families! We hope you are enjoying the Mid-Winter Break. We want to let you know that we are increasing security for building entry, with advance notice. We are asking for ID now and will enhance that procedure. Please see the information attached and prepare to update all contacts and/or acquire picture ID if you do not have it, regardless of whether we know you. We appreciate your partnership.

Don't forget to register for our FAFSA night at LHS, coming up on February 27. Details are attached, and your seniors are excited for their next steps. We'll see you there.
Elementary families: When the littles wake you up next Saturday and say, "What are we DOING today?" you can say, "We're getting free breakfast and books, and meeting a super cool author!" See the flyer below for information about Angela Joy at MCC on Twelve Mile on February 24. It will be a great event as part of the MISD Macomb Reads series..
